Jessica Pegula confirms if she’ll play US Open mixed doubles after Jannik Sinner boycott threat

Tennis finds itself in an uncomfortable position at the moment, with their star players seemingly at odds with their most elite tournaments.

The Grand Slams are the largest and most prestigious events on the calendar, and subsequently offer the most prize money.

However, there has been discontent amongst the playing ranks, with many arguing that the huge revenue made by these competitions is not reflected in the prize money on offer.

Aryna Sabalenka threatened to boycott Roland Garros, before she and many others settled on a peaceful 15-minute media walk-out as their sole protest at the event.

Who would you like to see Serena Williams play doubles with if she returns?

Then, many waited with interest to see the reaction when Wimbledon released their prize money for the 2026 event.

It seems that The Championships might have done enough to stave off further frustration, but the US Open will likely come under huge scrutiny.

Jannik Sinner poised to lead boycott of US Open mixed doubles

The jewel in American tennis’ crown is inarguably the most commercialised commodity in the tennis world.

As such, they pull in a fortune over the three weeks of festivities, a chunk of which the players would like to see distributed fairly back to them.

In an effort to try and move the needle and force meaningful change, it has already been suggested what their plan will be.

Jannik Sinner is set to spearhead this, as he is apparently considering the boycott of the revamped US Open mixed doubles event.

However, not all of the top players are seemingly privy to this plan.

Jessica Pegula appears set to ignore Jannik Sinner’s US Open protest

And yet, despite Sinner seemingly fronting this initiative, Jessica Pegula seems happy to proceed with the event.

Speaking to the press after her semi-final win over Aryna Sabalenka, the American reportedly admitted that she is planning to play the US Open Mixed Doubles event, and will reunite with Jack Draper too.

Who are you most worried about heading into Wimbledon – Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, or Iga Swiatek?

Some of the biggest names on the WTA Tour are in poor form…

Pegula and Draper were one of the standout stories of the tournament last year, making it to the semi-finals.

However, later in that same press conference, when asked about the reported protest and proposed boycott, she seemingly thought that Sinner was alone in his plans to do that, as reported by Ben Rothenberg.
