Jasmine Paolini is only playing singles at Wimbledon this year after withdrawing from the doubles tournament alongside Sara Errani.
Paolini had struggled for form coming into Wimbledon this year, having not won a grass court match prior to the tournament.
The former finalist appeared to be at risk of losing in the first round of Wimbledon, with Paolini losing the first set 6-0 against Robin Montgomery.
Since then, Paolini has only gone from strength to strength and is now into the second week of the Wimbledon singles tournament, and she has now explained why she decided not to play doubles with Errani.

Jasmine Paolini admits her ‘body was struggling’ after Wimbledon doubles withdrawal
Paolini and Errani have been doubles partners for over four years, having won nine titles together, including Roland Garros in 2025.
Errani also has an official coaching role in Paolini’s team, and they were entered into the doubles draw at Wimbledon.
However, after withdrawing from the event, Paolini has now confirmed that she was the reason for them pulling out after struggling with a foot injury this year.

“I needed one more day to recover,” Paolini said in her post-match press conference. “You know, last couple of months has been tough with the foot. My body was struggling a little bit.
“So we speak, we talk a little bit yesterday with my team, with Sara, and that was the best decision. It was tough, because I care a lot about doubles, but was the best decision for today.”
These physical concerns did not hold Paolini back in her latest singles match, where she beat Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-2 to return to the second week of Wimbledon for the first time since her run to the 2024 final.
What happened when Jasmine Paolini played Alexandra Eala earlier this year?
Paolini will hope that having an extra day’s rest with no doubles helps prepare for her next match, which is against Alexandra Eala.
Eala beat defending champion Iga Swiatek to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon, and now either her or Paolini will be in the quarter-finals.

This will be a second meeting between Eala and Paolini, having faced each other at the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this year.
Eala got the better of Paolini on that occasion, having beaten the two-time Grand Slam finalist 6-1, 7-6(5).
The Filipina will be hoping to replicate this victory against Paolini when they play for a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Monday, July 6.
