Carlos Alcaraz’s latest victory at the ATP Finals secured his place as the year-end world number one.

Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals to continue his unbeaten streak at the tournament and confirm his place in the knockout stages.

The Spaniard has secured his place as the year-end world number one for the second time in his career, meaning even an ATP Finals victory for Jannik Sinner will keep him behind Alcaraz.

The two rivals share an excellent off-court relationship and Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, has sent a message to Alcaraz after his achievement.

The battle for world number one came down to the final ATP tournament of the year, but Sinner’s team were magnanimous in defeat.

Taking to Instagram after Alcaraz secured the illustrious spot, Cahill sent the new world number one a message.

Via an Instagram Story, Cahill wrote: “Big congrats to Carlos Alcaraz and your entire team. An amazing effort.”

Alcaraz and Sinner have been battling it out all year for the top spot, with the Spaniard nabbing it from his rival after defeating him in the US Open final.

Sinner briefly took it back after his Paris Masters win, but now Alcaraz has confirmed the spot heading into 2026.

Alcaraz last finished the season on top of the ATP rankings in 2022, when he became the youngest year-end world number one in the history of the sport.

The new world number one had a night to remember after sweeping aside Musetti in straight sets at the ATP Finals.

The Spaniard not only confirmed his place at the top of the rankings, but he also finished top of his ATP Finals group and qualified for the knockout rounds for just the second time in his career.

Alcaraz celebrated the moment with a brief Instagram post shortly after coming off court at the Italian tournament.

“This is what you could call a perfect night! Semi-finals in Turin and year-end number one,” wrote the Spaniard.
