Jannik Sinner withdraws from Paris Masters after ‘feeling unwell’

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Masters, with the World No.1 revealing that he has ‘come down with a virus’ while in the French capital.Sinner had been practicing in Paris since last week, hoping to continue his momentum on from winning the Shanghai Masters and the Six Kings Slam exhibition.
The Italian had also spoken in his pre-tournament press conference on Saturday about wanting to improve his record at the Paris Masters tournament, having never surpassed the third round at the event before. However, Sinner will have to wait until next year to do that after pulling out of the final Masters 1000 event of the season due to a viral illness. “This is not an easy announcement to make,” Sinner said on social media. “My team and I arrived early to prepare as best as possible, but unfortunately, I started feeling unwell during training and saw the doctor on Sunday. It turns out I’ve come down with a virus. “I’m feeling better now, but I’m still not ready to compete here in Paris. I was really looking forward to this tournament, so it’s disappointing, to say the least. For now, I’m focusing on recovery and getting back to 100%. I’ll be aiming to come back stronger for Turin!”
Sinner has now been replaced by lucky loser Arthur Cazaux, who takes the top seeds spot in the second round. The Australian Open and
US Open champion is next scheduled to compete at the ATP Finals in Turin, that begin on Sunday 10th November.Inside the baseline…This announcement seems to have completely out of the blue, with Jannik Sinner one of the earliest players to arrive at the tournament and was obviously planning to compete this week. Although it could genuinely be an illness, with Sinner having the WADA doping case appeal hanging over him it is hard not to read more into it and wonder if something deeper could be going on.
