The Italian has a long way to go before he can think about breaking Federer’s record, but one tennis legend believes he has what it takes…
Ion Tiriac thinks Jannik Sinner can break Roger Federer’s Wimbledon record
During a recent episode of ‘La Politica Nel Pallone‘, former Madrid Open tournament director and Davis Cup finalist, Ion Tiriac, delivered his verdict on Sinner.
“Economically, [Jannik] Sinner is worth at least 100 million euros a year, more than double that of a footballer,” he said.

“In my opinion, Wimbledon [is the Slam he will win most].
“He can aspire to beat Roger Federer’s record of eight titles.”

Sinner was mightily impressive at the All England Club last year, dethroning the two-time defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, in the final.

Still, it seems ever-so-slightly premature to suggest he could break Federer’s record.
For years, that record looked untouchable, at least for anyone not named Novak Djokovic.
But with Djokovic slowing down at 38, perhaps Sinner is the man most likely to make history in London.
Tiriac isn’t just expecting big things from Sinner at Wimbledon, though, as he backs him to win 20+ Grand Slams.
“He can easily reach over 20 [Slams],” he said.
“What he simply needs is someone to help him with his planning.”
Only three men, Djokovic (24), Rafael Nadal (22), and Federer (20), have won 20 Grand Slam singles titles.
Sinner currently sits on four (2024 Australian Open, 2024 US Open, 2025 Australian Open, 2025 Wimbledon), but looks likely to add to his tally this year.

He can ‘only’ win three majors this year, having missed out on the title down under, though Tiriac is confident he could one day complete the Calendar Grand Slam.
“I think he has the chance to complete the Grand Slam,” said Tiriac.
“The last one was Rod Laver fifty years ago, but it’s time someone did it again. Let’s hope it can be Jannik.”
Rod Laver is the only man to win all four Grand Slam singles titles in a calendar year since the Open Era began.
Sinner won’t match the Aussies feat this year, although his biggest rival, Alcaraz, could…
The Spaniard won the Australian Open in January and has previously won the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
Can he win all four in 2026? Only time will tell…
Jannik Sinner has already done something in tennis Roger Federer failed to do
Sinner has a mountain to climb if he wants to break Federer’s Wimbledon record, but he’s already achieved something the Swiss legend never did.
The Italian has won the first three Masters 1000 events of 2026.
2026 Masters 1000 events
| Tournament | Surface | Winner | Runner-up |
| Indian Wells | Hard | Jannik Sinner | Daniil Medvedev |
| Miami Open | Hard | Jannik Sinner | Jiri Lehecka |
| Monte Carlo Masters | Clay | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz |
Federer won the first two Masters 1000s of the year three times (2005, 2006, 2017), but never won the Monte Carlo Masters to make it three in a row.

In fact, throughout his career, Federer never won three consecutive Masters 1000 events.
Having won the Paris Masters to finish the 2025 season, Sinner has won four in a row at the Masters 1000 level, a streak he will be looking to extend when he returns to tennis.
The 2026 Madrid Open begins on Wednesday, April 22.
