Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have set up a mouthwatering clash in the Cincinnati Open final.

Just over a month on from their blockbuster contest in the Wimbledon final, Sinner and Alcaraz will do battle once again in the heat of Cincinnati.

Sinner overcame a tough contest against Terence Atmane, a player who had stunned the field by defeating Joao Fonseca, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune on his way to the last four.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz defeated world number three Alexander Zverev, winning 6-4 6-3.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz are quickly establishing themselves as greats of the game, and it was Sinner who made history on Saturday evening, surpassing Swiss legend Roger Federer in one key area.

Jannik Sinner becomes the youngest player to reach eight consecutive finals at ATP Masters 1000 and Grand Slam events since 1990

It is very rare that a discussion is had regarding a player overtaking Roger Federer in any area of tennis.

After all, Federer won 20 Grand Slam singles titles during his career, including a record-setting eight Wimbledon triumphs.

However, Jannik Sinner has managed to snatch one record away from Federer by making the Cincinnati Open final.

As per OptaAce, since 1990, Jannik Sinner is the youngest player to reach eight consecutive finals at ATP Masters 1000 and Grand Slam events, surpassing Roger Federer.

Sinner achieved this feat aged 23 years and 356 days, while Federer accomplished the total at 24 years and 273 days.

The Italian will now look to make it two from two against Carlos Alcaraz this summer, after his victory over the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final.

Jannik Sinner has won 200 ATP hard-court matches

Sinner created more history on Saturday, clinching his 200th hard-court victory on the ATP Tour.

As per Tennis TV, Sinner’s 7-6 6-2 victory over Atmane has resulted in him becoming the first player born since 2000 to achieve 200 ATP Tour hard-court wins.
