Jannik Sinner should have one clear goal after winning the Miami Open title

Jannik Sinner will turn his attention to the clay-court swing after winning the Miami Open.

Sinner has been in ruthless form throughout March, winning titles in California and Florida.

As a result, Sinner is now only the eighth man to complete the Sunshine Double, joining the likes of Michael Chang and Andre Agassi in completing the feat.

Will Jannik Sinner overtake Carlos Alcaraz and become world number one? 🤔

If so, when will he do it?

Sinner will hope to continue his excellent form at the Monte-Carlo Masters – the Italian’s first tournament in April.

Remarkably, the Italian does not have a particularly good record on the clay, despite reaching the final of last year’s French Open.

Jannik Sinner must correct his surprising clay-court record

Jannik Sinner is an excellent clay-court player: perhaps the best in the world alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

However, despite his natural ability on the surface, he only has one ATP clay-court title to his name.

Sinner’s lone clay-court title was won at the 2022 Umag Open – an ATP 250 event. Sinner, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final, secured his first-ever ATP Tour title at the event.

Since then, Sinner has come close to winning bigger clay-court events.

Last year, he reached the finals of the Italian Open and French Open, only to lose to Carlos Alcaraz on both occasions.

Surely – when considering the Italian’s ability – it is only a matter of time before Sinner improves his record on the surface, and picks up a significant clay-court title.

The Italian could do so at the Monte-Carlo Masters, which is due to begin on April 5.

Sinner has twice made the semi-finals in Monaco, but lost to Holger Rune in 2023, and Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz won the 2025 event, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

What do you think is Carlos Alcaraz’s best surface and why?

Jannik Sinner’s best chance of winning a clay-court Masters

Across the clay-court swing, there are three Masters events taking place: the Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open and Italian Open.

Of those events, Sinner has enjoyed his best results in Monte-Carlo and Rome.

Sinner has twice reached the semi-final in Monaco, and reached the Italian Open final last year before losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

Of those two events, one would have to choose the Italian Open as Sinner’s most promising opportunity.

With the event being held in Italy, Sinner will have the unrelenting support of the crowd throughout the tournament.

And with the way Sinner is currently performing, who would bet against the Italian winning multiple clay-court events across the next two months?
