Jannik Sinner has successfully defended his Wimbledon title, coming from a set down earlier today to beat Alexander Zverev in the final.
It was a match laden with drama, particularly when the unfancied German snatched the first set after playing a flawless tiebreak.
Then, when the second set was to be decided by that same method, it felt like a huge moment in the match.
Jannik Sinner, not to be outdone, orchestrated a sensational run of points of his own to level the scores. From that point on, it felt like there would only ever be one winner.
Speaking afterwards live on ESPN, he provided a brief assessment of his performance, which included a serving masterclass that completely shut his opponent out.
Jannik Sinner rates his performance after winning the Wimbledon title
Beginning with his emotions, Sinner admitted: “Well, amazing, honestly. Loss of words in this moment because it’s been so tough today.
“I was serving so, so well, especially in the important moments, and it’s tough to lose the first set like this and, you know, I tried to stay there mentally, trying to maximise my potential. It has been quite physical also at some point, so I’m really, really happy about today’s performance and holding this one more time. It means the world to me.”
How many Wimbledon titles will Jannik Sinner retire with?
He's a two-time champion! Roger Federer holds the men's singles record with eight…
Then, discussing the need to bounce back after he lost that first set, Sinner added: “Yeah, I mean, of course, not easy [laughs].
“But at the same time, I worked so hard, especially in Monaco; the days have been so so long and, you know, if you win or lose the final, honestly, it’s of course better if you win, but at the same time, you know, to stand here on Sunday, it’s an amazing feeling.
“A lot of pressure, of course, but I’m really, really happy with how I handled these situations when coming into the tournament without any tournaments or pre-tournament before and, yeah, it has been an amazing couple of weeks.”
He finished by emphasising his appreciation of his position, having just won a second Wimbledon title and a fifth major.

Sinner stated: “I appreciate the people I have around. I appreciate the understanding they have towards me because I know that I ask them a lot, you know, and everyone has, you know, family at home and, you know, I always try to do my best, you know, when we are together.
“For me, the most important days are the off days, you know, when we have free time, and the practice days, because we put a lot of work in there and, you know, to celebrate this kind of feeling, at least one more time again, it’s amazing.
“For me, Wimbledon has always been, back in the day, the only tournament I’ve watched, tennis tournaments since I was 10, 11 years old, and now to win twice here means the world to me.”
Whilst still on court, Sinner made a confident prediction about Zverev following their match, as he spoke warmly about his opponent.
Jannik Sinner joins legends on iconic Grand Slam list
In winning his fifth Grand Slam title, Sinner has leapfrogged a handful of legends and drawn level with even more iconic names from the sport’s history.
Leaving Jim Courier in the dust, the Italian is now just one more major away from the likes of Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker.
Do you think Jannik Sinner could really win all 9 Masters 1000 events in 2026?
He draws level with players such as Martina Hingis and Maria Sharapova.
This is a testament to just how great this 24-year-old superstar already is, and what’s frightening is that he’s only just getting started.
Seemingly every record in the sport’s history is under threat from his potential greatness.
