Jannik Sinner continued his march towards a sixth successive Masters 1000 title with victory over Sebastian Ofner on Saturday.

The Italian proved too strong for his Austrian opponent, securing a 6-3, 6-4 victory on the Italian Open Centre Court.

Sinner has been in imperious form since the start of March, winning 24 consecutive matches across Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.

And with Carlos Alcaraz absent from future competition, Sinner looks set to dominate for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of Alcaraz, the Spaniard’s absence has given Sinner the opportunity to add his name to the record books.

Jannik Sinner could win the Roland Garros and Wimbledon double

Carlos Alcaraz’s absence from competitive play has opened the door for him to become just the seventh man in the Open Era to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same calendar year.

Sinner is the strong favourite to win the French Open title following a dominant clay-court campaign. The Italian has demonstrated incredible form on the red dirt, losing just one set in 12 matches.

Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending French Open champion, is unable to compete at this year’s Parisian event due to a wrist injury, handing Sinner a much more comfortable route to the Roland Garros title.

Moreover, Alcaraz’s return is yet to be confirmed.

The Spaniard is currently expected to return to competitive play during the grass-court swing. However, after such a long injury layoff, one would not be surprised if Alcaraz needs some time to rediscover his best form.

If Alcaraz is either absent or unable to play his best tennis at Wimbledon, Sinner will have every opportunity to complete the Roland Garros–Wimbledon double.

If Sinner were to do so, he would become the seventh man to achieve the feat in the Open Era, after Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

What did Jannik Sinner say after winning the 2025 Wimbledon title?

Last year, Jannik Sinner suffered a heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final. The Italian squandered three match points before going on to lose the contest in a fifth-set tiebreak.

A month later, Sinner defeated Alcaraz to win his first Wimbledon title.

Yeah, very emotional, no, even if I don’t cry,” Sinner told reporters in London after his triumph.

“It feels emotional because only me and the people who are close to me know exactly what we have been through on and off the court, and it has been everything except easy.

“We’ve tried to push, you know, every practice session, even I was struggling at times mentally. Maybe even more in practice sessions because I feel like when I play the match, I can switch off and just play. I believe that this helped me a lot.

“Yeah, but you know, to share this moment with my family here, my whole family here, it’s the most amazing thing that could have happened to me, no?

“In Paris it was only my mom, and it was still an amazing feeling. Here my dad and my brother and my mom too and the whole team, not only from my coaches’ perspective, but everyone who works for me has been here.

“It has been, yeah, an amazing feeling.”
