Jannik Sinner has been in typically imperious form at the Australian Open so far in his first two matches.

The Italian has defeated Hugo Gaston and James Duckworth so far in Melbourne without dropping a set and only dropping 10 games.

Sinner still thinks he has room for improvement as he prepares for a match with talented American Eliot Spizzirri.

The world number two has been handed a difficult scheduling blow for his match against the 24-year-old.

Jannik Sinner will have to deal with extreme heat at the Australian Open

The Australian Open is set to be hit with extreme heat on Saturday, 24 January, with temperatures set to hit highs of 40 degrees Celsius.

Spizzirri vs Jannik Sinner is the second match on the Rod Laver Arena, following Madison Keys’ clash with Karolina Pliskova.

Play is set to start at an earlier time of 10:30am tomorrow in Melbourne, meaning Sinner will likely play at the height of the sunshine.

This could provide a tough test for the world number two and he is not the only top contender who will have to deal with the heat.

Novak Djokovic’s match against Botic van de Zandschulp will follow, when heat could be equally as high in Melbourne.

Both Sinner and Djokovic struggled with extreme heats at the Shanghai Masters, so this could be a stumbling block for the two stars.

The order of play for the Australian Open on 24 January

Several high-profile stars will be in action on the first Saturday of the Australian Open, with eight Grand Slam champions taking to the court.

Naomi Osaka will be looking to bounce back from her controversial match against Sorana Cirstea by defeating Australian favourite Maddison Inglis.

Plenty of eyes will be on Marin Cilic to see if he can continue his impressive Grand Slam run as he faces in-form Casper Ruud.

Jessica Pegula will be looking to continue the red-hot form that saw her topple McCartney Kessler in the second round as she faces Oksana Selekhmeteva.

Elsewhere, the likes of Ben Shelton, Amanda Anisimova, Iga Swiatek, Valentin Vacherot, and Elena Rybakina will also appear.
