Jannik Sinner’s ATP Tour dominance continued on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory against Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

Sinner, who is seeking a fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title, defeated the tricky Briton 6-2, 7-5 in the Caja Magica.

The Italian was far from his best against Norrie, yet he moves on to the quarter-finals and remains the clear favourite for the title following Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal.

Sinner has been in dominant form since suffering defeat in the Australian Open semi-finals, losing just one match in his last four tournaments.

As a consequence of his dominance, Sinner has equalled Novak Djokovic’s historic feat.

After winning his first three matches in Madrid, Sinner has now emerged victorious in 20 consecutive Masters 1000 contests at the start of this year.

Sinner has joined Novak Djokovic as the only players to achieve the ATP feat since the format’s introduction in 2009.

Remarkably, Djokovic accomplished the stunning feat twice, in 2011 and 2015.

In 2011, Djokovic won 29 consecutive Masters 1000 matches. During this streak, he won Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, and Canada.

His run was ended by Andy Murray in the Cincinnati Open final.

In 2015, Djokovic began the year by winning 23 consecutive Masters contests across events in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome and Canada.

Murray again ended the Serbian star’s streak, defeating Djokovic in the Canadian Open final.

Jannik Sinner reacts to winning 20 consecutive matches

Yeah, no, it’s good,” Sinner said of his win streak while speaking to reporters in Madrid. “But at the same time you don’t think about it.

“You know, you have one opponent every day, and you just try to have the best, the better day than your opponent.

“Different conditions, depending also the time slots you play. Different opponent, you know. Today it was a lefty, so you have to change a couple of things.

“But I’m not thinking, you know. I’m trying to put myself in the best possible position to win as many matches as possible, and that’s it.

“So, of course, every day mentally you need to be ready for a tough battle and tough fight, and that’s what I’m trying to do.”

Sinner will increase his win streak to 21 matches if he defeats Vit Kopriva or Rafael Jodar on Wednesday.
