Jack Draper now has perfect chance to achieve British feat not managed since Andy Murray was playing

Jack Draper’s return to tennis can only mean good things for Britain, and the sport as a whole, really.

After all, having enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2025, winning his maiden Masters 1000 title after solid runs at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, the latter part of his year was massively curtailed by injury.

Just as he seemed poised to announce himself as a major threat to the established two-man elite, the British number one was dragged back down to earth.

Alas, after many months of rehabilitation, he has made his return at the Davis Cup.

Who is to blame for Jack Draper’s injury issues?

His re-emergence comes at the perfect time for Britain too, who should now fancy their chances of pushing on to win the whole thing.

Jack Draper can lead Britain’s Davis Cup team to glory in 2026

Whilst Jack Draper is one of the best players in the world, he needs a team around him to actually threaten for this team title.

Fortunately, in his absence, Cameron Norrie has enjoyed yet another career renaissance, having risen to 26th in the world rankings after a stellar 2025.

The Davis Cup has to make a change… which is your preference?

At the Grand Slams, he reached the fourth round in Paris, the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, and the third round in New York. The 30-year-old is clearly more than capable of challenging most players on tour, and performing on the biggest stages.

Partner this with Jacob Fearnley, and there are three top singles players all capable of competing.

The addition of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, one of the world’s best doubles teams, only reinforces their claim.

This is especially possible given that Draper has officially returned to tennis after his lengthy lay-off, having played and won his first match since the US Open last year earlier this week.

When did Great Britain last win the Davis Cup?

If Great Britain were to win the Davis Cup this year, it would mark their first success at the event in over a decade.

After all, their last title came back in 2015, with Andy Murray leading them to the title.

Despite being unseeded, the Brits shocked the world as they battered their way past some heavyweight tennis nations on their way to the final.

They beat the USA, France and Australia, before toppling Belgium in their own backyard to take the title.

The British squad consisted of Kyle Edmund, James Ward, Dan Evans, Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot, of course led by Andy Murray.
