A new star was born today at the Miami Open…
In a tournament headlined by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, a 17-year-old Frenchman stole the limelight in round one.
The search for the third member of a new ‘big three’ may already be over…
17-year-old Moise Kouame wins on his Miami Open debut
Moise Kouame received a main draw wild card for the 2026 Miami Open.
Weeks after his 17th birthday, the young Frenchman took on the home-favorite, Zachary Svajda, in the first round.

Kouame dropped the first set, 5-7, but refused to be beaten on Court 7.
Roaring back, the prospect fought through cramps to win in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Moise Kouame vs Zachary Svajda – Match stats

| Win % on 2nd Serve | 62% | 57% |
| Break points | 3/4 | 2/12 |
It was far from a perfect performance from Kouame, but the talent was clear to see.
If and when he refines his game, I believe he will be one of the very best players in men’s tennis.
The Frenchman’s speed was remarkable and his aggressive shot-making left Svajda chasing shadows at times.
And while his serve was inconsistent, the 11 aces showed how much of a weapon that shot can be.
Standing at 6ft 3, Kouame has the perfect frame for a modern tennis great, and showed glimpses of future greatness on his Miami Open debut.
If Alcaraz and Sinner haven’t heard of Kouame yet, they soon will…
The world’s top two players have dominated the sport since the beginning of the 2024 season, winning the last nine Grand Slam titles.

Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and others have all been named as potential challengers to their dominance, but the gap looks to be widening by the week.
If anyone is going to stop them, it’s going to be someone they haven’t met yet.
Kouame could be that player.
A fearless young Frenchman with talent to match his ambition might be the man to challenge, if not overthrow, Alcaraz and Sinner.
Of course, we are getting ahead of ourselves, but I’m convinced that Kouame is a name we will be hearing for years to come.
Moise Kouame is targeting world number one and Grand Slam titles
Ahead of his Miami Open debut, Kouame outlined his goals in an interview with the ATP Tour’s website.
“My goal is to be world number one and win lots of Grand Slam [titles]. This is what I am training for,” said Kouame.
“Now it’s a dream, and I hope later it won’t be, but it will be real.”
Kouame is dreaming big, and rightly so.
He’s leaving no stone unturned in his bid to become a Grand Slam winner, either, having enlisted the help of French tennis icon Richard Gasquet.

Gasquet, a former major semifinalist, joined Kouame’s team earlier this year.
Since Gasquet joined, Kouame made his ATP Tour debut at the Open Occitanie and reached his first Challenger Tour semifinal in Lille.
Those results have seen the 17-year-old jump to 319th in the Live ATP Rankings.

He could yet break into the world’s top 300 if he wins his second-round match in Miami.
Easier said than done, though, as Kouame faces the 21st seed Jiri Lehecka.
The Czech star, seven years Kouame’s senior, has played 209 ATP Tour matches.
Kouame has played two…
It remains to be seen if Kouame can overcome the gulf in experience and stun Lehecka to book his place in the third round.
Kouame and Lehecka will battle it out on Friday, March 20.
