Teenager Iva Jovic has celebrated her first WTA Tour title in a post on social media.

The 17-year-old became the youngest winner of a WTA Tour title this year after defeating Emiliana Arango in the Guadalajara Open final.

As a result, Jovic has become the youngest player in the WTA top 50, debuting at a ranking of 36.

The former ITF junior world number two is the latest American woman to announce herself on the WTA Tour, following the emergence of Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova in the last few years.

It remains to be seen whether Jovic can reach the heights of her compatriots, but she is certainly trending in the right direction.

Iva Jovic’s message after winning the Guadalajara Open

On Instagram, the 17-year-old thanked the Guadalajara Open organisers, noting that the fans were ‘the most spirited and energetic group’ she has played in front of.

Jovic said: “First WTA 500. Fought so hard… This one is for everyone who believes in me and supports me on this crazy journey – my family, team, fans, Adidas tennis, Yonex Tennis and RedBull.

“A big thank you to the Guadalajara Open for putting on this incredible event and for all the warm welcomes.

“To the fans, you have been the most spirited and energetic group I have played in front of. Thank you for the atmosphere you created and the chills you gave me. Moments I won’t forget. Overwhelming amounts of support. [Shakira concert was also a moment that won’t be forgotten.]

“Huge congratulations to Emiliana Arango for this week, and the fight [you] showed. Always wishing you the best.

“Muchas gracias Guadalajara.”

Iva Jovic’s Australian Open opportunity

Iva Jovic has a huge opportunity to cement her place among the WTA Tour’s elite by the end of the year.

The 17-year-old, ranked 36 in the world, is just a few spots away from being within the threshold for a seeded position at Grand Slam tournaments.

Therefore, with the 2026 Australian Open just around the corner, the American has ample opportunity to gain more WTA points and climb further up the rankings during the last few months of the year.

After winning her opening round at the 2025 Australian Open, an unseeded Jovic lost to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.

When the 2026 tournament begins in January, Jovic will fancy her chances of progressing even further than she did in 2025.
