Italy is fast becoming the tennis capital of the world…
In 2025, the nation hosted the Davis Cup Finals (Bologna), the ATP Finals (Turin), the Hopman Cup (Bari), and the Italian Open (Rome).
But they still want more!
During a recent press conference, Italian Tennis Federation president Angelo Binaghi shared his plans for the future.
Italy want the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and the Next Gen Finals
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Binaghi said the following.
“Right now, they’re offering us everything,” he said.
“It’s possible that the Next Gen [Finals] will also return to Italy for a year.
“But regarding the BJK [Billie Jean King] Cup, we’ve spoken to the minister; we’ll work on this and bring them to Italy.
“Meanwhile, they’ll be in China for this year and next year.”
Binaghi wants to bring the Next Gen Finals and the Billie Jean King Cup Finals to Italy.
The Next Gen Finals began in Italy, nine years ago, but were moved from Milan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2023.

However, the Saudi Tennis Federation opted out of a five-year deal with the ATP Tour, leaving Italy as the obvious choice to host this year’s event.
Since the 2020 rebranding of the Fed Cup to the Billie Jean King Cup, four countries have hosted the Finals event.

The premier women’s team competition looked to have settled in China, although Binaghi wants to bring the event to Italy from 2028.
Understandable, given that Italy are the two-time defending champions…
How successful have Italy been recently?
After decades of disappointment, Italy sparked into life a few years ago.
Since 2023, Italy have won five team competitions.
- 2023 Davis Cup
- 2024 Billie Jean King Cup
- 2024 Davis Cup
- 2025 Billie Jean King Cup
- 2025 Davis Cup
They also reached the finals of the Hopman Cup and the United Cup during that period.
Whenever Italy enters a team event, they do so as the favorites.
But their success isn’t limited to team competitions, as the Italians have enjoyed several big wins on the ATP and WTA Tours.

Jasmine Paolini and Jannik Sinner have done most of the heavy lifting, flying the flag for their country.

Jannik Sinner is favorite to win another title
The Italian tournaments are a few months away, and there’s plenty of tennis to be played before then.
Sinner won Indian Wells last time around and is now in Miami, looking to complete the Sunshine Double.
Our fans on TalkingPoints have named Sinner as the favorite to win the Miami Open, ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.
