Iga Swiatek is currently without a coach following her split from Wim Fissette.

The Pole lost her opening match in Miami, prompting her to make the change.

She had been scheduled to return to action in Gliwice, Poland, for her team’s Billie Jean King Cup tie against Ukraine on Friday, April 10.

However, Swiatek has now withdrawn from the event, in another statement released on Instagram.

Iga Swiatek ‘hopes’ fans can understand as she skips Billie Jean King Cup duty

“Today I want to share another decision,” said Swiatek.

“I will not be playing in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament in Gliwice.

“This is not an easy decision for me, as playing in Poland has always held and holds special significance for me, and I know that many of you were looking forward to seeing me on the court.

“Recent times have been demanding for me, both in terms of sports and the changes happening around me.

“I feel that I need a moment to pause, organize certain things, and focus on calm, quality work. I hope you understand.”

Swiatek also took the time to wish her teammates well.

“We have a great team, I am sure that Magda Linette will do a wonderful job leading the girls,” she said.

“I am keeping my fingers crossed for the entire squad: Linda Klimovicova, Katarzyna Kawa, Maja Chwalinska, captain Dawid Celt, and the whole team.

“I will be cheering for you with all my heart.

“Thank you for your support, it really means a lot to me.”

Swiatek’s decision makes a lot of sense and shouldn’t be criticised.

After all, she’s shown plenty of commitment to Team Poland over the years.

While most of her rivals jetted off on holiday after last year’s WTA Finals, Swiatek suited up for her country in Billie Jean King Cup play-off action.

After guiding Poland to the qualifiers, Swiatek enjoyed a short off-season before returning for the United Cup in January.

If Linette and Co. can get the job done against Ukraine, there’s a good chance that Swiatek will be back in the fold for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals later this year.

Where will Iga Swiatek return to tennis?

Swiatek is currently scheduled to appear at the Stuttgart Open, in Germany.

The six-time Grand Slam champion has won the event twice before.

Top-10 players flock to Stuttgart every year, in what proves to be the premier warm-up tournament before the WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome.

In 2026, Swiatek will be joined by the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina in southern Germany.

She won’t enter the event as the favourite, having failed to win a single clay-court title in 2025, but is certainly in with a chance.

If she can pick up her third title at the event, she could well return to world number three, having lost a place to Coco Gauff recently.

There is, however, a possibility that Swiatek chooses to skip Stuttgart as well.

The tournament begins the week after the Billie Jean King Cup tie she has just withdrawn from.

If Swiatek is looking to take a break and recover after a stressful period on tour, surely she needs more than an extra couple of days?

Only time will tell what Swiatek will decide to do.

For now, fans can expect to see the Pole return to WTA Tour action at the Stuttgart Open, which begins on Monday, April 13.
