Iga Swiatek’s early exit from the Miami Open compounded the Pole’s miserable start to the 2026 season.
Swiatek has not been at the races this year, outside of shining for Poland at the United Cup, but you could argue her issues have been lingering for quite some time before that.
Swiatek’s impressive Wimbledon victory papered over the cracks in 2025, and her latest run of form proves she must absolutely make a change to her coaching team.
Her damaging loss to Magda Linette at the Miami Open proves her partnership with Wim Fisette must now come to an end.

Why Iga Swiatek should now split with Wim Fisette
Swiatek hired Fisette in October 2024 at arguably one of her strongest tenures in the sport, off the back of winning five tournaments that year.
It’s a stark contrast to how Swiatek has done since under Fisette, with just three tournament victories under the Belgian coach.
The Pole was world number one when she hired Fisette, but she has fallen two placed during his 15 month reign.
Do you think Iga Swiatek will win a Grand Slam this season?
Fisette was hired to bolster Swiatek’s game beyond her dominance on clay, which was teased during her victory at Wimbledon.
However, it is clear that the world number three has become a weaker player under the tutelage of Fisette.
She looks far more beatable than she did in 2024 and she looks a long way from Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka currently.
You could argue that Swiatek has regressed under Fisette, which is the exact opposite of what a coach is supposed to achieve.
The blame does not lie solely with Fisette, but it’s clear their working relationship will not help Swiatek turn around her season.
Wim Fisette’s actions during Iga Swiatek’s loss were quite frankly bizarre
Swiatek looked in complete control against Linette in Miami, taking the first set 6-1, before crumbling under the pressure.
The Pole looked devoid of ideas on court, which led Fisette to shout: “Do something!” to the world number three.
Aryna Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek… who do you prefer? 🤔
It’s frankly baffling to hear a coach shout something as vague as that, particularly while their player is floundering.
It is not at all helpful and just a further sign that this partnership is not fit for function for the six-time Grand Slam winner.
Swiatek must make a decision sharpish, before she totally loses ground at the top of the WTA Tour rankings.
