‘I have decided I won’t travel’ – Rafael Nadal suffers major blow ahead of Australian Open

Rafael Nadal will have to do without his top coach Carlos Moya at the Australian Open after he opted not to travel.

Moya and Nadal have proven to be a formidable partnership since the former world number one took over coaching duties from Toni Nadal in 2016.

However, with the coronavirus situation worsening in Spain, Moya says he would prefer to remain with his family.

“After speaking with Rafa, we have decided that I won’t travel to Australia with the team.”

“I will follow the tournament from home and will stay with my family, parents, and kids due to the delicate situation that Spain is living with the virus. Best of luck to the team!!”

Nadal has won the Australian just once, in 2009, and can become the first man to win every Grand Slam title multiple times if he can claim another in Melbourne next month.
