“I don’t understand her mentality!” Navratilova questions Osaka priorities after potential Wimbledon withdrawal revealed


Naomi Osaka has stated she might not play at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships as there are no ranking points on offer due to the tournaments banning of Russian players, but this has now drawn questions over her decision making process form one of the greats of the game

Martina Navratilova says “it’s kind of nice if you can walk away from a potential £2m pay day. Most people don’t have the luxury” as the winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles questioned the priorities of Naomi Osaka.

Navratilova was being interviewed on TV when she was asked if she thought Naomi Osaka had her priorities wrong and should go back to focussing on winning big tennis tournament’s?

Navratilova replied, “I just don’t understand her mentality. I would like to sit down and tell her about the history of Wimbledon. It would not have even occurred to Osaka not to play if the ranking points hadn’t been taken away.”

Osaka has said “I’m someone who gets motivated by the idea of rising in the rankings. The intention of this measure was good, but the execution is all over the place” when asked about the removal of all ATP and WTA ranking points from Wimbledon 2022.
