Jannik Sinner and Linda Noskova won the men’s and women’s singles titles at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

Both players will now turn their attention to the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.

They would love nothing more than to add to their major tallies in New York; however, history suggests that’s unlikely…

Novak Djokovic is the only Wimbledon champion to have won the subsequent US Open since 2015

Serbian legend Novak Djokovic was the last player to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year, doing so in 2018.

He also accomplished the feat three years earlier, in 2015.

However, since then, players, including Djokovic, have been unable to complete the Wimbledon-US Open double.

Djokovic lost in the fourth round of the US Open after winning Wimbledon in 2019, lost in the final in 2021, and was unable to compete in 2022.

Then, after Carlos Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon title in 2023, he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open semi-finals and suffered a shock second-round exit a year later.

And, while Sinner came close to doing the double, he lost the US Open final to Alcaraz last year.

Whether he can go a step further in 2026 remains to be seen.

On the women’s side, none of the last 10 Wimbledon singles champions went on to win the US Open later in the year.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was another G.O.A.T. contender, Serena Williams, who came closest.

In 2015 and 2016, Williams reached the semi-finals of the US Open after winning Wimbledon.

Six of the last 10 Wimbledon women’s singles champions failed to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open.

Elena Rybakina lost in the first round, Simona Halep and Barbora Krejcikova lost in the second round, Angelique Kerber and Ashleigh Barty lost in the third round, and Garbine Muguruza lost in the last 16.

If anything, winning Wimbledon has proved to be a bad omen for women heading into the US Open.

So history isn’t on Sinner or Noskova’s side as they prepare for a trip to New York.

How well have Jannik Sinner and Linda Noskova played at the US Open?

Sinner is a former US Open champion and has won 79% of his matches at Flushing Meadows.

However, Noskova hasn’t enjoyed nearly as much success at the US Open, winning just 43% of the matches she’s played.

When looking at those numbers, you’d have to say Sinner is far more likely to complete the double than Noskova.

This year’s US Open begins on Sunday, August 30.
