Carlos Alcaraz will miss the next two Grand Slam tournaments after sustaining a wrist injury in Barcelona.

The Spaniard is injured and unable to compete at the French Open and Wimbledon.

Is it time to start panicking about Carlos Alcaraz?

He's out of another Grand Slam…

He will surely be devastated to miss out, but what do the withdrawals mean for Alcaraz’s ranking?

Carlos Alcaraz will drop almost 4,000 points due to injury

Alcaraz was already set to drop 2,000 points thanks to his Roland Garros triumph last year.

Unfortunately for Alcaraz, the points he earned on grass last year are now also set to drop from his tally.

He isn’t the only player defending ‘big’ points over the coming months, but they can defend those points, and he can’t.

While on paper, the post-Wimbledon gap between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is 3,190 points, it could be as large as 7,190 points if the Italian wins Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

And while Alcaraz has a healthy lead over the world number three, Alexander Zverev, that lead could potentially be wiped out entirely if the German wins the next two Slams.

That is, of course, unlikely, but it does highlight just how significant this injury may prove to be.

Jannik Sinner looks set for second year-end number-one ranking

Alcaraz’s loss is Sinner’s gain, as the 24-year-old now looks a safe bet to finish the year as world number one.

He did so for the first time in 2024, but had to settle for second behind Alcaraz in 2025.

Sinner leads Alcaraz by 2,250 points in the ‘Live ATP Race to Turin’, largely because of his Masters 1000 dominance, and that gap is likely to grow significantly while the Spaniard is sidelined.

If Sinner can extend that gap to anywhere close to 5,000 points by the time Alcaraz returns, it will be tough to stop him from finishing 2026 as the year-end number one.

The Italian won’t celebrate Alcaraz’s injury, though, as the pair share a strong bond on and off the court.

Sinner, like the rest of the tennis world, wants to see Alcaraz back on court as soon as possible!
