Last November, Holger Rune suffered a devastating injury while competing in the Stockholm Open.

Midway through his semi-final contest against Ugo Humbert, Rune suffered an achilles tear – an injury that has prevented him from competing for the best part of six months.

Rune was expected to make his return to competitive play at the Hamburg Open; a tournament which began on May 16.

Unfortunately for fans of the Dane, he was forced to delay his return.

Rune, who will be one of the lowest-ranked players in the draw, will compete against the likes of Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti and Cameron Norrie for the Queen’s Club title.

In the last eight, he was defeated by Roberto Bautista Agut, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.

Alex de Minaur is set to be the top seed at this year’s event, following Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal from the grass-court event.

In 2023, Holger Rune made his debut at the Queen’s Club Championships.

The Dane, seeded second, defeated Maxime Cressy, Ryan Peniston and sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti on his way to the semi-finals.

There, Rune was defeated by Australian star Alex de Minaur, 6-3, 7-6.

“I love being here and playing on this court in front of this amazing crowd,” de Minaur said afterwards, as per the ATP website.

“I am very happy to get through. I have played decent on grass and I am having a good week and this was my best performance of the week.”

In the final, De Minaur was beaten by world number one Carlos Alcaraz, 6-4, 6-4.

Alcaraz won the event again two years later, beating Jiri Lehecka in the final.

The Spaniard will not take part in this year’s event after suffering a long-term wrist injury at the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz has also withdrawn from Wimbledon as a result of his injury.
