Holger Rune camp accuses Stan Wawrinka following Paris ‘baby’ jibe

Holger Rune should not have had to accept Stan Wawrinka’s ‘baby’ jibe, according to his manager and mother Aneke.

Rune defeated former three-time major winner Wawrinka at the Paris Masters before a spikey confrontation between then at the net following match point.

Wawrinka appeared to have chastised the 19-year-old, apparently upset at some of his conduct during the match.

โ€œMy advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court,โ€ Wawrinka told Rune, as picked up by the tv cameras.

However, Aneke Rune has come to the defence of her son, saying a player of the Swiss’ experience should not be a ‘bad loser’.

“It is hard to imagine that a sportsman like Stan would have said that,” Aneke Rune told TV2.

“Then he would come across as an uncommonly bad loser. Holger has only mentioned that he wished him well with the results of the past weeks.”

It is not the first time Rune’s conduct has been questioned, with Casper Ruud very critical of him after their French Open clash this year.

Ruud accused Rune of ‘creating lies’ after allegations of a locker room confrontation.

โ€œI donโ€™t know Holger Rune personally, but I have seen on TV that sometimes there can be a lot of drama,” Ruud said at the time. “Heโ€™s young and new, so thatโ€™s excusable, but when youโ€™re on a big stage, it might be time to grow up a bit.โ€
