History is made in Germany as Katie Boulter loses record-breaking Bad Homburg match

Leylah Fernandez has quickly avenged her recent loss to Katie Boulter at the Queen’s Club Championships.

Boulter emerged victorious from their two-day contest in West London, winning 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 inside the Andy Murray Arena.

On Sunday afternoon, Fernandez defeated Boulter in the Bad Homburg Open first round.

Fernandez, who will play Iva Jovic or Xinyu Wang in the next round, beat Boulter 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 on Centre Court.

By doing so, Fernandez made Bad Homburg history.

Leylah Fernandez has won the longest-ever Bad Homburg match

History has been made in the west-central German city.

Leylah Fernandez and Katie Boulter have contested the longest Bad Homburg match since the event was founded in 2021.

The match lasted three hours and 12 minutes.

Boulter, who chose to compete in Bad Homburg instead of Eastbourne, has now played her final match ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

Katie Boulter’s grass-court swing so far

Boulter defeated Paula Badosa in the first round of last year’s Wimbledon event, before losing to Argentine Solana Sierra.

Leylah Fernandez’s record against her potential second-round opponents

Fernandez won her only previous match against American youngster Iva Jovic.

The Canadian defeated her fellow North American in the third round of the 2026 Madrid Open.

Fernandez, who won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, went on to reach the quarter-finals before losing to Mirra Andreeva.

As for Xinyu Wang, Fernandez has never played the Chinese athlete on the WTA Tour.

If Fernandez advances to the quarter-finals, she will play either Elina Svitolina or Liudmila Samsonova.
