He is the only player in tennis history to have a winning record against Roger Federer and Pete Sampras

Pete Sampras and Roger Federer shared 36 Grand Slams between them after dominating the landscape of tennis over three different decades.

Sampras won 14 Grand Slams between 1990 and 2002, while Roger Federer won 22 major tournaments between 2003 and 2017.

Sampras and Federer share plenty of ATP Tour records, and only a number of players managed to carve out a positive head-to-head against the stars.

When it comes to holding a positive record against both men, only one star can claim to hold that in tennis history: Sergi Bruguera.

Sergi Bruguera’s incredible record against Pete Sampras and Roger Federer

Spaniard Bruguera won two Grand Slams in his career in back-to-back years at Roland Garros in 1993 and 1994.

The star also reached a career-high of World No. 3 in 1994, and he holds another impressive record in tennis.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

The star holds a positive record against Sampras and Federer despite playing them a joint seven times on the ATP Tour.

Bruguera beat Federer in their sole meeting at the Barcelona Open in 2000, dropping just two games to the Swiss superstar.

Sampras and Bruguera played five times on the ATP Tour, and the Spaniard managed to win three of their matches.

The Spanish star knocked Sampras out of Roland Garros and the Miami Open, as well as notching up a victory in the World Team Cup round robin phase.

Sergi Bruguera also hit an incredible Grand Slam feat in 1990

Bruguera was also the last player to win a Grand Slam match by the scoreline of 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, which is dubbed the ‘triple bagel’.

The Spaniard swept aside Thierry Champion without dropping a single game at the 1993 Roland Garros, which he went on to win.

Only five players have achieved the feat in history, with the first coming from Nikola Spear against Daniel Contet at Roland Garros in 1968.

The other three came all came in the same year as Karel Novacek decimated Eduardo Bengoechea, Stefan Edberg defeated Stefan Errikkson, and Ivan Lendl dominated Barry Moir in 1987.
