Arthur Fery has advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Fery, 23, booked his spot in the last 32 at Wimbledon with a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Finland’s Otto Virtanen.

Virtanen, the world number 140, beat fourth seed Ben Shelton in the previous round.

Unfortunately for British tennis fans, three of those four players lost in the Wimbledon second round.

Madison Keys and Jaume Munar both secured straight-set victories over their British opponents, while Frances Tiafoe battled his way past Jan Choinski in four sets.

As mentioned already, Fery was the only player to secure victory in the Wimbledon second round.

The youngster, who also defeated Flavio Cobolli at the Australian Open earlier this year, has already eclipsed his best-ever result in south-west London.

Last year, the Briton reached the second round after stunning 20th seed Alexei Popyrin.

He was then beaten by Luciano Darderi in straights sets.

Who is Arthur Fery’s next opponent?

Zizou Bergs, the world number 37, has defeated Jaime Faria and Ugo Humbert en route to the Wimbledon third round.

The Belgian star, a winner of one ATP Tour title, has never played Arthur Fery on the ATP Tour.

The Lommel-born 27-year-old will achieve his best-ever result at a Grand Slam if he defeats Fery on Saturday.
