The Paris Masters has an extensive list of legends on its winners list, and one star managed to win the tournament ranked World No. 50.

Djokovic has dominated the Paris Masters with seven victories, but the likes of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Alexander Zverev have lifted the trophy.

Carlos Alcaraz is looking to win his first Paris Masters in 2025, where he will begin his campaign against either Cameron Norrie or Sebastian Baez.

In 2005, a player became the lowest-ranked in history to win the Paris Masters, which is a record that still stands today.

Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic (L) holds his trophy after winning over Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia (R) at the end of their Paris Tennis Masters Series final match at Bercy indoor tournament, O6 November 2005. Berdych won 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4.

The lowest-ranked Paris Masters winner in history

Tomas Berdych lifted the Paris Masters trophy against all the odds in 2005 as the 20-year-old enjoyed a dream campaign at the ATP 1000 event.

Berdych went on to have a successful career in tennis, although he failed to win a Grand Slam or another ATP 1000 event.

The star defeated  Guillermo Coria, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Gaston Gaudio, Radek Stepanek before toppling Ivan Ljubicic in the final.

Berdych jumped 25 places in the rankings to World No. 25 after his Paris Masters success and he would go on to crack the top four in 2025.

The Czech star made three more Masters finals, but lost every single one of them at the Miami Open, the Madrid Open, and the Monte Carlo Masters.

What Tomas Berdych said after winning the Paris Masters

Berdych made full use of Rafael Nadal and Federer pulling out of the 2005 Paris Masters due to injury, and he was absolutely delighted with his victory.

“I thought winning this would be the best perfect way to end the season and I made it,” Berdych said after the match, but the monumental win was not lost on him.

“If someone told me I was going to win the tournament, I would have called him crazy,” he said, declaring his surprise.

Berdych won 13 titles across his successful career, but his Paris Masters victory was without a doubt his biggest.
