Haas, the number 24 seed, won a thrilling five-set match against Marin Cilic in the third round and on Monday only needed three sets to see off 29th seed Andreev.

He won 7-6 (10-8) 6-4 6-4 and will face fourth-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic or Israel’s Dudi Sela in the last eight.

Haas, winner of the Halle tournament earlier in the month when he beat Djokovic in the final, has now achieved his best career Wimbledon performance, having never previously gone beyond the fourth round.
