Grigor Dimitrov’s dreams of Wimbledon glory were brutally swept away during his Wimbledon fourth-round tie in June.

Leading Jannik Sinner by two sets to love, Grigor Dimitrov looked set to cause the upset of 2025.

However, it was not to be for the Bulgarian star.

During the third set, he crumpled to the floor after a serve, having torn a pectoral muscle in his chest.

This was a heartbreaking moment for the Bulgarian, who is a hugely popular figure among his peers and fans.

The Bulgarian has not competed on the ATP Tour since Wimbledon, and this absence looks set to continue.

Grigor Dimitrov’s absence from competitive play is set to continue following his withdrawal from the Shanghai Masters.

At last year’s tournament, Dimitrov defeated Zizou Bergs and Alexei Popyrin on his way to the fourth round.

However, he then ran into Czech star Jakub Mensik, who won their contest 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Consequently, Dimitrov will lose the 100 ATP points he won at last year’s tournament.

Italian world number two Jannik Sinner won the tournament, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final, 7-6, 6-3.

This year the tournament will run for 12 days, between October 1 and 12.

What did Dimitrov say after his injury?

Following his Wimbledon match against Sinner, Grigor Dimitrov posted an update on his Instagram account.

He said: “Sometimes the heart wants to keep going… but the universe has a different plan for us.

“Having to withdraw from this match at Wimbledon was one of the most painful moments of my career.

“Thank you for the overwhelming wave of love — from family, friends, fans, colleagues, to the entire tennis community… your messages have genuinely lifted me through these hard times.

“Thank you all. Truly. Recovery starts now. I’ll see you all soon.
