Jannik Sinner has won five consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments and is the clear favourite to win his sixth in Rome.
Some have described Sinner’s dominance as ‘boring’, especially with his closest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, out injured and unable to challenge him.
When does Jannik Sinner next lose a tennis match? 👀
But is that unfair to the world number one?
Former Grand Slam finalist Greg Rusedski certainly thinks so.
Greg Rusedski tells fans to ‘enjoy’ Jannik Sinner’s dominance
During the latest episode of ‘Off Court Cuts‘, Rusedski responded when asked if he thought Sinner’s dominance was boring.
“A lot of people are saying it, I disagree,” he said.
“I just think we are seeing a genius at work.

“People get the wrong perception about him being boring and robotic. I disagree, I think there’s a lot of personality there.
“For me, as a professional athlete, or an ex-professional athlete, I’m just amazed with his supremacy right now, and what he’s accomplishing on the court.
“Let’s enjoy this period, yes, it looks like a procession, but processions are hard to do.

“There is pressure, there’s expectation, because when he walks on court, he’s expected to win every time.
“To be able to play at that level consistently is so impressive.
“I quite like watching how well he’s playing.
“Someone is going to figure out the conundrum.
“The question is, who will it be apart from Carlos Alcaraz when he gets healthy again?”
Rusedski wants to see someone challenge Sinner in Alcaraz’s absence.
“We do need someone to step up, but at the moment, it’s looking like a formality,” he said.
“I mean, Rome, in his previous match, barely lost any games.

“Alexander Zverev is out as well, upset 6-0 in the third.
“Who is going to actually answer the bell?
“And with Alcaraz being away, it looks a little bit like a procession.
“The crowds in Rome, they almost don’t know what to do.
“Do I cheer, do I stay quiet?
“It’s getting embarrassing winning the matches that easily.
“If he wins in Rome, it just shows you how great a player he is.
“You know, in Doha, let’s not forget, everyone is saying he looks a little bit off, he’s like, no, no, I’m on track, I know where I need to go.

“He lost to [Jakub] Mensik and from there on in, he’s just been powering through.
“And I think he’s got a little record of Novak Djokovic’s he’s about to beat if he wins his next match…”
