Novak Djokovic lost in the third round of the French Open to Brazilian youngster Joao Fonseca.

After missing out on a golden chance to win his 25th Grand Slam, Djokovic will now surely have his sights set on Wimbledon.

Previewing Djokovic’s chances on the grass, Greg Rusedski shared his one concern about the Serb.

During the latest episode of ‘Off Court Cuts‘, Rusedski was asked if he thinks Djokovic should play a warm-up event before Wimbledon.

“I think he got all the matches he needed in Paris,” said Rusedski.

Novak Djokovic’s 2026 record

“I think, as a team, he will sit with Viktor Troicki, the new coach, and if I was coaching him, I would think, let’s try to get one tournament in, Queen’s, Halle, just one week, three, four matches.

“If Novak [Djokovic] says I feel fine because I’ve got enough tennis from Paris, then let’s play.”

Rusedski continued, commenting on Djokovic’s injury status.

“For me, the concern for Novak is how is the shoulder?” he said.

“You saw his fitness was excellent; he didn’t get tired against [Joao] Fonseca in the heat in Paris, so the lungs are good, the capacity is good. The question is, how is the shoulder?

“If the shoulder is good, play the week of Queen’s or Halle. If the shoulder isn’t good, get it 100%.”

Rusedski then assessed Djokovic’s Wimbledon chances.

“If he’s 100%, he is in with a real shot to win Wimbledon,” he said.

“And the only guy he has to beat would be [Jannik] Sinner, out of the big two, no [Carlos] Alcaraz, and he did that this year in Australia already.

“So from Djokovic’s point of view, he’s looking in good shape for Wimbledon; he’s not going to play doubles, he’s not going to play mixed doubles, he wants to get number 25, and he has a realistic shot of doing so.”

Djokovic will likely enter Wimbledon as the second favourite, behind Italy’s Jannik Sinner.

Two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz will miss the event due to injury, and there aren’t many other players who have proven themselves on the grass.

The Serb will need to be at his best to win his 25th Grand Slam at the All England Club this summer, but you wouldn’t put it past him…

When was the last time Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon?

Djokovic won his seventh Wimbledon title in 2022, four years ago.

He entered the competition as the top seed and heavy favourite, having not lost a game at SW19 since 2017.

Djokovic dropped just two sets on his way to the quarter-finals, where he met Sinner.

The Italian was much less experienced than he is today, but made life difficult for Djokovic, taking the first two sets, threatening to cause an almighty upset on Centre Court.

But as he so often does, Djokovic fought back, winning in five sets, 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

A four-set win over Cameron Norrie followed, as the Serb booked his place in the final, where he met Australia’s Nick Kyrgios.

Finally making good on his potential, Kyrgios made an excellent start in his first major final, winning the opening set 6-4.

He couldn’t get over the line to win the title, though, as Djokovic won the next three sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.

Djokovic reached the next two Wimbledon finals, where he lost to Alcaraz, before losing to Sinner in last year’s semi-finals.

He’ll be expected to make another deep run in 2026, but whether he can go all the way and take the title is another question altogether.

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday, June 29.
