Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup team has been finalised, with some of the UK’s biggest and best taking part.
The team makes up just one of eight countries competing at the finals. The other countries are China, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Spain, Ukraine and the USA.
Great Britain have announced a strong squad, with Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal and Jodie Burrage taking part. As a result, three players inside the WTA top 50 will represent Britain when the competition kicks off in Shenzhen, China on September 16.
The country qualified for the final stages after winning their qualifying tie against the Netherlands, after previously defeating Germany. The decisive triumph came in a final doubles match, where Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage secured the victory to advance.

This year, Great Britain’s squad have the quality to go above and beyond, and they may achieve something for the first time in four decades.
Great Britain have not reached the final of the Billie Jean King Cup in 44 years
Back in 1981, Great Britain fielded a team of iconic tennis legends, including Sue Barker, Jo Durie and Virginia Wade.
The cup, which was called the Federation Cup four decades ago, was hotly contested by Great Britain. They recorded 3-0 scorelines against both Belgium and France, before defeating the Soviet Union 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
The team then beat Australia 2-1 in the semi-finals, before falling 3-0 to the USA in the final. The triumph for the US marked their sixth consecutive Fed Cup title.

Around 44 years later, Great Britain have a genuine chance of making it back to the same stage.
Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal have burst into form, and all four players are extremely adept at playing doubles, as demonstrated by Raducanu’s recent doubles win with Elena Rybakina at the Washington Open.
The team face Japan in the first round, who have four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka leading the line. China boast Qinwen Zheng, Italy have put forward Jasmine Paolini, while Kazakhstan and Spain are fielding Elena Rybakina and Paula Badosa respectively.
The US, rather typically, has a strong team. Madison Keys, Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula form three of the five players they will bring to Shenzhen, and they are the clear favourites for the tournament.
However, Great Britain has hope. Led by former British number one Anne Keothavong, the team are well prepared for a battle, and have recent experience of success in the competition.
How did Great Britain fare at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup?
In the heat of southern Spain, Great Britain arrived to the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup with high expectations.
These expectations only grew as Great Britain beat Germany and first-seed Canada in their first two rounds, both by a scoreline of 2-0.
The team looked slightly different in 2024. Raducanu and Boulter joined Heather Watson, Harriet Dart and Olivia Nicholls.
In the semi-final against Slovakia, Britain began superbly, with Raducanu defeating Slovakia’s Viktoria Hruncakova 6-4 6-4.
However, the team were soon pegged back. Katie Boulter lost to Rebecca Sramkova 2-6 6-4 6-4. Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls were then comfortably beaten, losing 6-2, 6-2 to Viktoria Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova.
After the contest, Anne Keothavong told the Guardian: “Gutted, I think we’re all absolutely gutted.
“We came into this event really believing that we had a good shot at it, and unfortunately we fell short.
“We came up against a better team. But it’s still pretty raw right now. It’s quite difficult to find the right words.”
Great Britain have a chance to go one further than they did last year. They have a great shot, and with their components showing great form, they could go all the way.
