Novak Djokovic’s legacy in tennis was called into question after his narrow escape against Lorenzo Musetti at the Australian Open.

Djokovic secured his place in the Australian Open semi-finals after Musetti’s retirement while he was two sets up against the Serbian.

Djokovic hit back at a ‘disrespectful’ reporter during his Australian Open press conference after the win against Musetti.

The reporter claimed Djokovic was also ‘chasing’ the best players in the world, which has been slammed by multi-time Grand Slam champion Todd Woodbridge.

Todd Woodbridge slams Novak Djokovic’s ‘stupid’ treatment

Djokovic was quick to fire back at the reporter and he has now been defended by Australian broadcaster Woodbridge.

Speaking on The Morning Serve, Woodbridge was in disbelief at the level of disrespect shown to the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Who is going to win the men’s Australian Open?

“What a stupid question. Seriously. You’ve got the greatest player, in terms of men’s singles titles, sitting there and you pose a question like that?”

Woodbridge also praised Djokovic for his response to the reporter. “Good on him, I love (Djokovic’s response). I love the body language, leaning back in his chair.”

Djokovic will now play Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semi-final as he looks to win his 11th Grand Slam in Melbourne.

The semi-final clash will take place in the Australian Open evening session on Friday, 30 January on Rod Laver Arena.

Novak Djokovic discusses his chances against Jannik Sinner

Djokovic is certainly the underdog heading into his match against Sinner, particularly after not winning a set since the Australian Open third round.

Speaking at his press conference, Djokovic explained: “I think I’ve underperformed for the level that I showed throughout this tournament.

“I have to play better – no doubt about it. I know that if I’m feeling well and the body is holding on and I’m playing well, then I always have a chance.”

Djokovic’s last victory against Sinner came in 2023, with the Italian winning each of their last five matches on tour.

The Serbian’s last victory saw Djokovic knock Sinner out of the ATP Finals, where he lifted the illustrious trophy.
