Frances Tiafoe has endured his most tumultuous season on the ATP Tour so far, slipping to world number 28.

Tiafoe has failed to reach the semi-final stage of a tournament throughout the duration of 2025, most recently exiting at the first hurdle in Japan and Shanghai.

The American star also struggled to make his mark during the USA’s defeat to the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup, and has a record this year of 26 wins and 22 losses.

Tiafoe’s on-court quality is well-recognised. After all, he was one set away from reaching the 2024 US Open final.

However, he has not been able to replicate that form during 2025.

World number 28 Frances Tiafoe has withdrawn from the Brussels Open in Belgium, set to take place from October 12 to 19.

The American will not lose any ATP ranking points as he did not compete at the tournament in 2024.

The 27-year-old, who most recently lost to world number 150 Yannick Hanfmann at the Shanghai Masters, has been replaced by Bosnian star Damian Dzumhur.

Roberto Bautista Agut is the defending champion at the tournament, which has moved from Antwerp to Brussels.

Bautista Agut features again in 2025, along with the likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and last year’s finalist, Jiri Lehecka.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is yet to win an ATP Tour title, is the fourth seed, and Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca is the eighth seed.

Frances Tiafoe’s next tournament

Frances Tiafoe’s return to competition could occur later this month.

The American is entered in the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, Austria, alongside the likes of Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur.

Jack Draper, who will not compete at this year’s tournament due to injury, is the defending champion.

This year, the tournament is set to take place from October 20 to 26.
