Bianca Andreescu lost to Viktoria Hruncakova, 7-6, 4-6, 4-6, in the second round of French Open qualifying.

The Canadian won her opening match in French Open qualifying against the home favourite, Daphnee Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

She looked to be heading for another win when she won the first-set tiebreaker against Hruncakova, but it wasn’t to be.

Andreescu will be disappointed with the result, of course, but there is still plenty for her to be proud of.

At 25, Andreescu is far from finished and is taking the necessary steps to rediscover the form that saw her beat Serena Williams in a Grand Slam final.

Bianca Andreescu has won multiple ITF titles this year

Beginning the year ranked outside the world’s top 200, having failed to play a main-draw Grand Slam match in 2025, Andreescu recognised something needed to change.

So she did just that, stepping down to the ITF level in January.

There, she found immediate success, winning two titles in a month.

Andreescu then reached the final of a Challenger Tour event in March, losing out to Lanlana Tararudee in Austin.

She’s played several Challenger and WTA Tour events since, picking up wins at both levels.
