After an impressive victory over 11th seed Jarkko Nieminen in the third round, del Potro seized an early lead against Ferrer and never looked back as he clinched a 6-1 7-5 win.

Del Potro will face fourth seed Richard Gasquet of France, a 6-3 6-2 winner over 12th-seeded German Rainer Schuettler, in the semi-finals.

Ninth seed Czech Tomas Berdych was too strong for Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez, winning 6-0 6-4, and will be up against second seed Andy Roddick in the last four.

The American moved one step closer to his second straight title with a 6-3 6-4 victory over unseeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia.
