There have already been some big names to exit Roland Garros this year after just the first round.

Top seed and title favorite Jannik Sinner won his first round match in comfortable fashion this year, as he extended his winning streak to 30 matches.

Sinner was joined in the second round by the likes of Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

WTA number one Aryna Sabalenka also won her first round match, but there have also been a total of 14 seeded casualties who are already out of Roland Garros.

Jessica Pegula and Daniil Medvedev lead 14 first round exits at Roland Garros

There have been a total of 14 seeded players to have lost in the first round of Roland Garros this year, with seven in both the women’s and men’s singles tournaments.

In the women’s singles draw, fifth seed Jessica Pegula is the highest-ranked seed to already be out of Roland Garros this year after suffering a shock defeat to Kimberly Birrell.

Pegula is the only top 10 seed who is already out of Roland Garros this year, but she was joined by the likes of Linda Noskova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Liudmila Samsonova, Clara Tauson, Leylah Fernandez and Cristina Bucsa, all of whom were seeded casualties in the first round.

The men’s singles draw already had a seeded player out of the tournament before their first round match, as Arthur Fils was forced to withdraw due to a hip injury.

While there was only one top 10 seed to lose in the first round of the women’s singles draw, three top 10 seeds already out of the men’s singles tournament.

This includes Daniil Medvedev, who lost to Adam Walton in the first round, with Taylor Fritz and last year’s quarterfinalist Alexander Bublik already losing at this year’s Roland Garros.

Jiri Lehecka, Cameron Norrie and Tomas Martin Etcheverry were the remaining three seeds to lose in the first round of the Roland Garros men’s singles draw this year.

How many seeded players lost in the first round of Roland Garros last year?

Although there have already been a number of seeded casualties after the first round of Roland Garros this year, this is still less than last year.

After the first round of Roland Garros in 2025, there were already 18 seeded players to have exited the tournament.

The big similarity between the two years is that the number of seeded players to lose in the first round of Roland Garros was equal between both the men’s and women’s singles draws, with nine losing in both.

This includes some of the same names to have lost in the first round in Paris this year, with Noskova, Fernandez, Medvedev and Fritz winless at Roland Garros once again.

Despite the seeded casualties at Roland Garros this year, the top four players remain in both draws going into the second round.
