The Canadian Open is one of tennis’ most prestigious tournaments, but of late, its stock has taken a rather dramatic hit.
After all, its timing within the tennis calendar has put it in a precarious position, as it comes so soon after Wimbledon.
In an effort to combat top players opting against playing at this Masters 1000 event, this year, they actually moved the tournament back by a week.

Jannik Sinner withdrew from the Canadian Open earlier this week, headlining an ever-expanding list of the sport’s best players pulling out.
Here are all the players who have already removed themselves from contention in Toronto and Montreal.
The top ATP players who have already withdrawn from the Canadian Open
The ATP wing of the Canadian Open has undoubtedly suffered more than the WTA side.
After all, three of their top five seeds are set to be absent, with Carlos Alcaraz still injured and Djokovic joining Sinner in withdrawing this week.
That is the extent of truly notable absentees, with players like Jack Draper opting against playing qualifying after his recent rankings drop due to injury, and Holger Rune still not fully fit yet.
However, no new withdrawals have been confirmed.

The women’s event may not have such high-profile withdrawals, but they are still damaging given they have suffered a handful of setbacks.
This year’s Wimbledon finalist, Karolina Muchova, had to have surgery after the event, and so will not be playing in Canada.
Meanwhile, Victoria Mboko is still a distance from playing again at all after injuring her medial collateral ligament at the start of the grass-court season.
Hailey Baptiste is in the same boat.
This tournament still comes too soon for Emma Raducanu after picking up a stress fracture in her lower right leg. Her return date is unspecified.
Jasmine Paolini, 15th in the world rankings, is another big casualty for this tournament.
