Aryna Sabalenka is the two-time defending champion heading into this year’s US Open.

Sabalenka beat Amanda Anisimova to defend her US Open title at last year’s tournament.

This was the last time that the world number one won a Grand Slam tournament, with Sabalenka losing to Naomi Osaka in the fourth round of Wimbledon in her latest major defeat.

Sabalenka will look to return to form in time for the US Open, where she has not lost a match since 2023.

Every player who has beaten Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open

Sabalenka is currently on a 13-match winning streak at the US Open, which is statistically her best Grand Slam tournament in terms of win-loss record.

The last time Sabalenka lost at the US Open was in the 2023 final, where she was beaten by Coco Gauff.

Gauff is the sixth and most recent player to beat Sabalenka in her eight appearances at the US Open.

The first player to beat Sabalenka at the US Open was the aforementioned Osaka, in what was the first meeting between the two players.

Osaka would go on to win the title that year, and she did not play Sabalenka again until this year, when they have played four times already.

One of the other six players to beat Sabalenka at the US Open is her Belarusian compatriot Victoria Azarenka.

Azarenka beat Sabalenka in the second round of the 2020 US Open, and was actually the last player to beat her in straight sets at a Grand Slam until Osaka at Wimbledon this year.

Sabalenka has also suffered two semi-final defeats at the US Open, having lost to Leylah Fernandez and Iga Swiatek in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

WTA players who have won three consecutive titles at the US Open

Sabalenka will be hoping that no names join the list of players to have beaten her at the US Open, as she looks to make history at the New York major this year.

Only two other women in Open Era history have won three consecutive titles at the US Open before, with Sabalenka hoping to join this exclusive list.

Chris Evert was the first player to achieve this in 1977, and she actually went on to win a fourth consecutive title in 1978.

Serena Williams became the second woman to join this list in 2014, and Sabalenka was already the first WTA player to defend the US Open title last year.

Sabalenka has once been in this position before at the Australian Open, but she was unable to win a third consecutive title after losing to Madison Keys in the 2025 final.

If she is unable to win a third title in a row at the US Open, Sabalenka will make unwanted history as she would fail to win a Grand Slam title all year.
