Eugenie Bouchard celebrates her vaccine and her ‘Willy Wonka Golden Ticket’

Eugenie Bouchard has taken to social media to celebrate receiving her Covid-19 vaccine amid a reluctance from tennis stars to get the jab.

After several players revealed their concerns, the tennis authorities took their first step towards incentivising players to get vaccinated by offering privileges to those who are inoculated.

These benefits will now apply to Canadian star Bouchard, who referenced the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory movie to her 1.6 million twitter followers after receiving her vaccine.

The 27-year-old wrote on Twitter: ‘Got my Willy Wonka Golden Ticket’, alongside a photo of her vaccine record card, the plaster on her upper arm and a separate image of the ticket from the 1971 film.

The WTA Tour have promised to ‘educate’ some of the game’s top stars after a significant number of players admitted they are reluctant or not confident in being vaccinated.

World No 1 Novak Djokovic’s reticence to take vaccines has been well-documented, while top 10 players Elina Svitolina, Aryna Sabalenka and male counterparts Andrey Rublev and Diego Schwartzman were among those voicing their concerns at the Miami Open.

Wimbledon champion Simona Halep has now been joined by Bouchard as one of the few players to have received at least one dose, with the Romanian star also sing her social media platform to encourage others to come forward.

Halep stated: “It’s for everyone’s sake and that’s why I decided to get vaccinated.”
