In 2025, Emma Raducanu enjoyed her most positive spell on the WTA Tour since winning the 2021 US Open.
Raducanu recorded the most consistent season of her career to date, producing solid performances at the Washington Open, Miami Masters and Queen’s Club Championships.
Consequently, the British number one rose to world number 29 and will be seeded for a Grand Slam event for the first time since the 2022 Australian Open when she plays at the 2026 event.
Emma Raducanu won her first Grand Slam too soon – Prove me wrong!
Despite a strong campaign, Raducanu has missed out on a prestigious British tennis award.
Sonay Kartal has been named 2025 LTA Female Player of the Year
Sonay Kartal has beaten Emma Raducanu to the 2025 LTA Female Player of the Year award.
Kartal enjoyed a breakout season on the Tour, rising to a career-high of world number 44 after fourth round appearances at Indian Wells and Wimbledon.
The British star, now ranked 71st on the WTA Tour, also won her first match against a top 10 player, defeating world number five Mirra Andreeeva 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 at the China Open.
Kartal [pictured below, left], who is set to play at the Australian Open next week, also beat Francesca Jones to the award.

Jack Draper has won the LTA Male Player of the Year award, despite missing almost half of the ATP season due to injury.
Draper performed spectacularly in the first half of the season, winning his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells and reaching the Madrid Open final.
As a result, Draper achieved a career-high ranking of world number five.
However, his campaign was later derailed by a left arm injury.
The British star, who beat Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley to the award, recently announced his withdrawal from the Australian Open due to the same injury.
Who is to blame for Jack Draper’s injury issues?
However, there is hope for British tennis fans; Draper’s next tournament has already been confirmed.
Sonay Kartal’s run to the Wimbledon fourth round
As mentioned previously, Kartal’s performance at Wimbledon was a highlight of her year; a tournament in which the Brit truly announced herself to British tennis fans.
In the first round, Kartal stunned 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, defeating the Latvian 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
Victories against Viktoriya Tomova and Diane Parry followed, before a fourth round loss to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Kartal became only the fourth woman to reach the last 16 this century, after Laura Robson, Heather Watson and Emma Raducanu.
