Raducanu had planned to compete in the event, meaning she had taken part in many pre-tournament interviews.

During one of these interviews, Raducanu named the toughest opponent she has ever played on the professional circuit.

In an interview with British Vogue, Raducanu delved into a number of tennis-related topics.

One of those questions centred around her dream doubles partner.

Raducanu also stated that Iga Swiatek represents her toughest-ever opponent on the WTA circuit.

“Who is the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced?” the British number one said.

“I would say… I played Iga on clay. That was pretty tough.”

Raducanu has never won a match against Swiatek, losing five consecutive contests to the Polish star.

Three of those matches have been on clay: at the 2022 and 2024 Stuttgart Opens, and the 2025 French Open.

Świątek dominated from start to finish during their Roland Garros meeting, triumphing 6-1, 6-2.

Emma Raducanu’s reaction after losing to Iga Swiatek in Paris

“It really puts a lot of pressure on from the beginning, makes me feel like I have to maybe do something extra or I just don’t know what to do in the moment,” Raducanu, then 22 years old, said after the match.

“I think it does shift the dynamics of the match a bit, and then it’s very difficult to stay with her as she grows in confidence.

“It just shows, I guess, the distance that I have to improve.”

“There are certain things I just know I need to do better,” she later added. “Against the top players, I can’t hide away from that.

However, she was ultimately beaten 7-5, 6-4 by the world number one.
