Emma Raducanu has shown no signs of slowing down at the US Open, as she demolished another opponent on Wednesday.

After dominating her opening round against Ena Shibahara, Raducanu again only dropped three games in her second round contest against Indonesian star Janice Tjen.

Raducanu romped to victory against her young opponent, winning 6-2 6-1.

The British number one has come into form at the right time and should now be considered a threat to any player who faces her at the US Open.

It now seems quite bewildering that, before the tournament, Raducanu had failed to win a match at the US Open since her fairytale triumph in 2021.

In her post-match interview after defeating Tjen, Raducanu said: “I’m very pleased with how I played today, second round, after two days, it kind of breaks the rhythm a little bit.

“But I was playing Janice [Tjen], super dangerous opponent. She was playing extremely well. I thought any ball that I would put mid-court that was not necessarily good enough, she’s just put away easy.

“So I’m really pleased with how I performed today, and it was so good to play in front of all you guys on [Louis] Armstrong, I loved it once again, so thank you so much.

The interviewer then asked: “Were you aware of the fact that when you were having your magical run here [in 2021], she [Tjen] was injured in college and went on record saying how much your journey inspired her?”

Raducanu replied: “I’d seen something like that, it puts a little bit of pressure on, but at the same time, it’s a really nice feeling.

“Janice is playing some really dangerous tennis. She has gotten through tough opponents, beat one of the top seeds first round, so playing really well.

“I’m sure she can build and take a lot of confidence from this week and it was great to play her. I look forward to the next time.”

Tjen stunned 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. By doing so, she became the first Indonesian woman to win a Grand Slam match since Angelique Widjaja at the 2003 Wimbledon Championships.

Raducanu was then asked to comment on winning the most matches of her career in a single season so far. Raducanu has now won 26 WTA Tour-level singles matches so far this year.

The 22-year-old added: I think, first of all, the consistency of doing good practice days every day, building on that.

“After Miami, I did some really good work, I started to do it, but I also feel that in the last few weeks I’ve really stepped it up with what I’m doing on and off the court.

“I’m really happy that I’ve got those people in my corner over there, and really grateful for them. I’m just looking forward to building day by day.

“Doing my best, that’s all I can do. I’m putting a lot of trust in the work I’m doing behind the scenes so it takes a little bit of pressure off, but at the same time, whenever you play a match in a big stadium, you feel a bit of pressure, but I like to try and use it as much as I can.”

Tim Henman reacts to Raducanu’s victory

Former British number one Tim Henman reacted to Raducanu’s performance after the match, claiming the young star will take a great deal of confidence from her victory over Tjen.

Raducanu was simply superb against Tjen, and this was reflected in Henman’s comments.

During Sky Sports’ coverage on Wednesday, Henman said: I think Raducanu will take so much confidence from that.

“If you take out of the equation the ranking of her opponent and just purely focus on the way Emma played, it was highly impressive.”

Raducanu makes personal history

Raducanu’s impressive victory showcased her innate talent, while cementing the 2025 US Open as her most dominant run to the third round of a Grand Slam to date.

As per OptaAce, Emma Raducanu has lost only six games to reach the third round of the Women’s Singles at the US Open 2025.

This is the fewest games she has dropped on her way to the third round of a Grand Slam during her career.

In the third round, Raducanu will face either 2022 Wimbledon Ladies Singles champion Elena Rybakina or former junior Grand Slam winner Tereza Valentova.
