The star’s victory in Melbourne is the second Grand Slam victory of her career, following her maiden win at Wimbledon in 2022.

Rybakina’s victory against Sabalenka has seen her earn an outright WTA record, having just surpassed Serena Williams.

Rybakina has an excellent record against Sabalenka, having now beaten her seven times following the Australian Open final.

Rybakina has now won nine matches against the world number one, having suffered just six defeats following the Australian Open.

Elena Rybakina has what it takes to now reach world number one

Rybakina’s victory at the Australian Open has seen her land a whopping 1760 ranking points, which puts her comfortably in third place in the WTA Tour.

She is now 930 ranking points above Amanda Anisimova in fourth place and she should now have her eyes set firmly on Iga Swiatek in second place.

368 points is the difference between Rybakina and Swiatek, and the Kazakhstani’s performance in 2025 means she is not defending very many ranking points.

Who wins more Grand Slams in their career – Elena Rybakina or Aryna Sabalenka?

Rybakina did not win a Masters title in 2025 and her best performance at a Grand Slam was the fourth round, meaning she could earn plenty of ranking points throughout the season.

If Rybakina continues the form she’s shown over the past three months then there is every chance she can reach the summit by the end of the year.
