Leading 1-0 overnight, Argentina needed just one win from Monday’s two matches but Troicki beat Maximo Gonzalez 6-4 6-1.

Troicki then teamed up with Nenad Zimonjic to see off Juan Martin Del Potro and Juan Monaco in a closely-fought encounter, eventually claiming a 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 10-8 victory.

Also in the Blue Group, Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi beat Evgeny Korolev and Stanislas Vovk 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 10-4 to seal a 2-1 win for Italy over Russia.

In the Red Group, the United States could not capitalise on their 1-0 overnight lead as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Germany.

First Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Robby Ginepri 6-7 (5/7) 7-6 (7/4) 6-0, then Nicolas Kiefer and Misha Zverev overcame Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey 4-6 6-4 10-1.

The Red Group’s other tie went the way of Sweden, who completed a 2-1 win over France thanks to Robert Lindstedt and Robin Soderling’s 6-2 3-6 10-7 victory over Jeremy Chardy and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
