Diego Schwartzman brought his illustrious tennis career to an end in 2025 at his home tournament in Argentina.
Schwartzman is set to return to tennis to join INTENNSE, a brand-new professional tennis league based in the United States.
Speaking exclusively to Tennishead, Schwartzman told us about his role with INTENNSE and reflected upon a career which saw him reach a career ranking high of world number eight.
One year after retiring, Schwartzman said there was just one aspect of tennis he truly missed after hanging up his racket in 2025.

Diego Schwartzman misses the tennis walk on
It’s been almost exactly one year since Schwartzman retired, but the Argentine is not hankering to return to the court.
In an exclusive interview, Schwartzman said he only missed entering bustling tennis courts to the loud cheers of fans.
Asked what he missed about tennis, he said: “Maybe they walk on, walk on in the competition. You know, it’s the only thing I miss, because then there are too many things behind the scenes that nobody knows and nobody sees.”
If you were in charge of tennis, what is the first rule you would change?
The star said the administration of being a professional tennis player is not something he misses in the slightest.
“The amount of hours you have to practice, taking care of your body, and many different things that I’m not missing.
“It’s too many hours per day, and I’m okay to be at home, you know. I’m with my family, I don’t know, having time for me and not being just in the plane, going from one tournament to another one. So, yeah, it’s already been a year since my retirement, but it feels good.”
Schwartzman will return to tennis as a member of INTENNSE’s Team Ownership Group, with the league set to start on 5 June. You can find out more information here.
Diego Schwartzman is enjoying his new role in tennis
As well as lending his expertise to INTENNSE this summer, Schwartzman has also played a role at some of the biggest tournaments in tennis.
The star appeared in a backstage role at the Australian Open and even practised with Carlos Alcaraz ahead of his final with Novak Djokovic.
What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?
Speaking about his new roles in tennis, he explained: “It’s fun for me. You know, behind the scenes, knowing how tennis is doing.
“Calendar, prize money, different things are going to change maybe the next few years, and it’s good to be behind the scenes, you know, trying to help.”
Schwartzman is joining INTENNSE alongside fellow former professionals Bob and Mike Bryan.
