A winner in Dubai and gold medalist at the Olympics earlier this year, the top-seeded Dementieva had not dropped a set and lost just 12 games over her last three matches before enduring a rough first set.

However, the 27-year-old Russian recovered from those early struggles. In the deciding tie-break, she took control by racing to a 5-2 advantage.

A semi-finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open, Dementieva improved to 54-15 and claimed three titles in a season for the second time in her career, having previously accomplished the feat in 2003.

The 18-year-old Wozniacki, the fourth seed from Denmark, was seeking her fourth title of the year following victories in Stockholm, New Haven and Tokyo.
