World number three Dementieva was leading 6-4 1-0 when Slovakian Cibulkova retired to hand the Russian a last four meeting with Caroline Wozniacki after the fifth seeded Dane strolled past Virginie Razzano 6-2 6-0.

World number 12 Wozniacki, 18, did not drop her serve once as she outclassed her French opponent.

In the other half of the draw, 16th seed Sabine Lisicki continued her good run with a 6-4 6-0 win over Elena Vesnina of Russia.

The German, who beat second seed Venus Williams 24 hours earlier, needed less than an hour to seal her progress to a meeting with sixth seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli, who beat Melinda Czink of Hungary 6-4 6-1.
