The British number six is set to play in his second Davis Cup tie as Goodall has been struggling with illness.

He played in Britain’s 4-1 defeat to Ukraine in March, which has left them facing a play-off to avoid relegation to Group Two of the Euro/Africa Zone.

“Colin has had some impressive results both in singles and doubles this season and will be a valuable addition to our campaign in Liverpool,” said captain John Lloyd on the BBC Sport website.

“Josh has been ill for about three weeks now and although he has tried, he has been unable to shake a persistent virus. Unfortunately we just ran out of time to prepare him for the tie.

“He needs to focus on getting well and having a good end to this season so that he can be ready to rejoin our Davis Cup campaign next year.”

Britain’s team also includes Andy Murray, James Ward and Ross Hutchins.

The tie with Poland begins on September 18.
