Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will provide the sparkling showdown to conclude the US Open later today, seeking to follow on from last night’s triumph in the women’s final.
There, Aryna Sabalenka overcame a year’s worth of hardships to beat Amanda Anisimova in straight sets, finally capturing a Grand Slam title despite reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon and the final of the other two majors in 2025 alone.
It was dramatic and high-quality, despite all the errors. Now, the top two-ranked players in the men’s game will clash, with both boasting different reasons for craving this US Open title.
Jannik Sinner, on the one hand, is bidding to defend his crown, and also his spot at the top of the world rankings. Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, is looking to disrupt that, and avenge his defeat in the Wimbledon final.
Darren Cahill, who famously coaches the former of this duo, has given his preview of the clash.
Darren Cahill previews Jannik Sinner’s US Open final vs Carlos Alcaraz
Speaking live on ESPN last night, as part of his media commitments that he shares with his time coaching Sinner, he revealed his excitement for the showdown.
After all, it once again sees the two best players in the world clash, for a third straight Grand Slam final, no less.

Cahill admitted: “My hands are a little bit sweaty already, so I cannot wait for tomorrow.
“Two great young men, they played in the last two majors, the matches they played have been amazing. Both guys play a different style of game, and I think they’re trying to push each other and they’re both becoming better tennis players because of the rivalry they have at the moment.
“I can’t wait to see it. I know Jannik is looking forward to it, and he’s healthy and he’s fit and strong, and he’s playing against the incredible Carlos Alcaraz, who has not dropped a set this entire tournament. So that’s about as in-depth as I’ll get with it.”
This came after Cahill pointed out what let Anisimova down in her US Open final defeat.
Jannik Sinner hoping to copy Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open
Having defended her title from last year and won her first Grand Slam title of the season, this will mark a hugely memorable moment for Sabalenka in the years to come.
And, given she won the US Open alongside Sinner in 2024, he will now be hoping to replicate her persisting quality and triumph in front of an expectant New York crowd.
Against Anisimova, the Belarusian was patient and tactical, sacrificing her preferred play style in favour of a hugely effective alternative that favoured defensive tennis when needed.
Given the form that Alcaraz has exhibited throughout this tournament, perhaps that might be a tactic that Sinner could employ, particularly with how good he is at turning defence into attack.
Regardless, we are sure to be treated to a phenomenal match; the 15th meeting between these two superstars of the sport.
